The Foundation Story
The Kisoro Children’s Foundation was founded by Ellen Williams in 2016 to support the education, health, and welfare of children and families in Kisoro, Uganda. It is a Public Charity incorporated in the state of Massachusetts in the United States and is designated by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) organization.
Ellen visited Kisoro and Ineza Parents’ School for the first time in 2015 and decided to create the Kisoro Children’s Foundation out of her desire to help build a permanent home for the school. The Foundation raised the funds required to build the four buildings that comprise the Ineza Children’s Centre today. Since then, the continuous collaboration between Kisoro Children’s Foundation and Ineza Children’s Centre has made an incredible difference for many hundreds of children in the Kisoro area through a diverse range of support.
The Foundation has no employees and operates exclusively on charitable volunteer efforts. The Foundation uses all the money it receives from the public to advance its mission. Thus, no money raised by Kisoro Children's Foundation will be used for travel or other Foundation expenses. The few necessary administrative Foundation expenses such as government filing fees and insurance are contributed by the founders and will not come out of any donations given by others. Travel is paid for privately by the individual traveler and does not come out of Foundation funds.
